If you've got any concerns, read on below for answers to our frequently asked questions.

I’m not very fit or strong, will I be able to manage?

Classes are adapted to individual’s current abilities, if you are finding a particular move challenging an easier option will be taught until you build up your fitness levels and strength and feel ready to progress to the next move. Everyone progresses in their own time; there is never any pressure to do a particular move if you feel unsure.

I’m not very flexible, can I still take part?

Some moves are flexibility based, however these tend to be more advanced moves which allow you plenty of time to work toward improving your flexibility if you wish. There are many moves which require little or no flexibility so you don’t even need to attempt flexible based moves if you don’t want to.

What should I wear?

Pole Dancing:
The best thing to wear are shorts and a t-shirt/vest top as this allows plenty of skin contact to help you stick to the pole. If you do not feel comfortable in shorts for your first lesson you can wear jogging bottoms/leggings. Classes are usually done in bare feet, some workshops or parties are done in heels but you will be told when booking. Please remove any jewellery to avoid damage to yourselves, the jewellery and poles. On the day of your lesson please avoid using body and hand moisturisers and fake tan as these make the poles too slippy.

Aerial Hoop and Aerial Yoga:
The best thing to wear are close fitting layers, e.g. two pairs of leggings, jogging bottoms, fitted t-shirt. You should avoid baggy clothes as these are easy to get tangled in. Until you get used to the hoop, wearing layers will protect your skin and make moves more comfortable. If you have leg warmers, bring them along too. Please remove all jewellery and watches before class to avoid damage and injury.

I’m worried about attending class, do you do one to one lessons?

Yes, if you would like to arrange a private lesson for pole dancing, aerial hoop or aerial yoga then just email and we will arrange a time which suits you. Private lessons can be on a one to one (121) basis or up to 3 people. If you would like more friends in your private lesson just drop us an email and we will sort something out.

Is pole dancing sleazy?

Not anymore. Pole dancing is now widely recognised as a great form of exercise, it is being considered for the Olympics and it was rumoured that Princess Katherine even took lessons to help her lose baby weight. Skylines classes focus on the pole fitness side where we use the pole to increase strength and to burn calories whilst having fun.

Do you teach men?

Yes, pole dancing, aerial yoga and aerial hoop is great for building strength so appeals to many men. Skylines have taught both men and women from a range of backgrounds and ages from 16year olds to over 60s.

I have a medical condition can I still take part?

With any medical condition or injury you must speak to your medical practitioner prior to taking a lesson. They will be able to advise you on whether you are able take part in a class. Before your first lesson you will be asked to fill in a health and safety questionnaire (download a copy here), you will be asked about your medical history. Some medical conditions may make it unsafe for you to take part in classes. We want everyone to feel included so if you have any concerns or questions please get in touch and we will make adaptations wherever possible to allow you to take part in classes.

Do you do birthday/hen parties?

Yes we do. If you have a reason to celebrate then we want to help celebrate it with you. We can tailor a party around what you want, when you want and with as many people as you want, just drop us an email and we can get that sorted. We can also organise private group lessons if there are a few of you all wanting to try it out.
